This exercise works all of the toes and can be performed standing or sitting.
With your foot resting gently on the floor, spread your toes as wide apart as possible, then relax and repeat. As you do so, make sure your big toe moves outwards rather than lifting upwards. Repeat 10 times on each foot.
This is not an exercise everyone finds easy at first – the intrinsic muscles that control individual toe movement are often underused. Keep practising and you should notice improvement over time.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
