The short foot exercise is a foundational exercise for activating the intrinsic muscles of the foot. It can be performed standing or sitting.
With your foot in a neutral position, try to raise the arch very slightly without lifting or clawing your toes. The aim is to create a slightly larger dome shape under the arch – it is a tiny movement that requires concentration to isolate correctly. Repeat 10 times on each foot.
This is one of the most important exercises for foot arch rehabilitation and is a good starting point before progressing to more demanding movements.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
