This exercise progresses dumbbell scapular stability work into a standing position, adding the challenge of lower body movement. Starting with the arm raised to 90 degrees at the shoulder and elbow, the movement involves finding a neutral shoulder blade position and then raising the arm towards the ceiling and back down.
Once this feels controlled, a lunge – forwards or backwards – is added to challenge stability further. Weight can be increased gradually as the exercise becomes easier.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
