Once good scapular control has been established, the next step is building the muscular endurance needed to maintain that control during more demanding activities. This exercise develops endurance through a reactive challenge – loosening the grip on a light hand weight and catching it before it drops.
Performed lying face down, the exercise is repeated in four arm positions: arm raised towards the head, elbow bent at 90 degrees, arm straight out to the side, and arm down towards the body. This helps identify which positions feel harder and ensures the shoulder is trained across a range of angles.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
