This exercise builds on basic scapular awareness by introducing movement in a push-up or four-point kneeling position. The movement is straightforward – rounding the shoulder blades outwards, then drawing them back down and together – but the position adds load and makes it easier to feel what the shoulder blades are doing.
It is a useful step between early awareness work and more demanding stability exercises.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
