This exercise introduces scapular awareness – developing a conscious understanding of how the shoulder blade moves and where it sits during arm movements. It is an important foundation for shoulder rehabilitation.
Lying face down on a bench or the floor, the exercise begins with the elbow bent at 90 degrees and progresses to a straight arm. Further variations involve moving the arm towards the head and back down towards the body. The aim throughout is to isolate and control the movement of the shoulder blade as precisely as possible.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
