This is a more advanced foot intrinsic exercise that combines a lunge position with a heel lift to challenge the arch under load.
Stand with your feet hip-width apart and step forwards into a lunge, keeping your back foot off the floor. From this position, raise the heel of your front foot an inch or two off the floor and hold for 10 seconds, then lower back down. Repeat 10 times on each leg.
Hold onto something stable as needed – this is not a balance exercise. The effort should be felt in the arch of the front foot.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
