This video takes you through four gentle neck mobility exercises, designed to move the neck through its normal ranges of movement. They are suitable as an early-stage exercise or as a warm-up before more demanding rehabilitation work.
The four movements covered are: lateral flexion – slowly tilting the head from side to side as if bringing the ear towards the shoulder; rotation – gently turning to look over each shoulder while keeping the shoulders and upper body still; retraction – tucking the chin backwards and then letting it move forwards in a controlled motion; and flexion and extension – dropping the chin towards the chest and then gently lifting the head to look upwards.
Each movement can be repeated a few times, gradually increasing the range with each repetition. Do not push into pain at any point.
These exercises have been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform them as directed by your clinician.
