This exercise uses a cable machine at shoulder height to work the rotator cuff and scapular stabilisers together. With the shoulder held at 90 degrees, the movement involves rotating the forearm from a horizontal to a vertical position and back – a direct challenge to the rotator cuff muscles that control this movement.
Keeping the upper arm level throughout is important, and the exercise should be performed slowly and with control. It is a valuable addition to any shoulder strengthening programme involving rotator cuff rehabilitation.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
