This exercise uses a low cable pulley machine to strengthen the shoulder through a controlled arc of movement. Standing side-on to the machine, the arm is pulled from a low position in front of the body out to the side and up to shoulder height in a smooth arc, before returning slowly under tension.
Good posture is important throughout – the upper back should remain open, the lower back neutral, and the shoulder blade controlled. This is a useful exercise for patients who have access to a cable machine and are building strength and control through the mid and outer ranges of shoulder movement.
This exercise has been recommended by the clinical team at London Bridge Sports Medicine as part of a structured rehabilitation plan. Always perform it as directed by your clinician.
