Medical Consultation with a Sports Medicine Doctor
Expert Sports Medicine Assessment & Consultation
Medical Consultation
Understand your injury. Get an accurate diagnosis. Start the right treatment.
Every successful recovery starts with an accurate diagnosis. Whether you’ve picked up a new injury, have persistent joint or muscle pain, or simply aren’t progressing despite treatment, a consultation with one of our experienced Sports & Exercise Medicine (SEM) doctors is the ideal place to begin.
At London Bridge Sports Medicine (LBSM), every patient starts with a comprehensive medical consultation. This allows us to understand not only where your pain is coming from, but why it has developed.
By combining a detailed history, expert clinical assessment and, where appropriate, on-site diagnostic imaging, we can quickly identify the cause of your symptoms and create a personalised treatment plan to get you back to the activities you enjoy.
What Happens During Your Consultation?
Your appointment is typically 30 – 45 minutes and gives you dedicated time with one of our specialist Sports Medicine doctors.
During your consultation we will:
- Take a detailed history of your injury or symptoms
- Discuss your sporting activities, work and lifestyle
- Perform a thorough musculoskeletal examination
- Assess movement, strength, flexibility and biomechanics
- Explain your diagnosis in clear, understandable language
- Discuss treatment options and expected recovery times
- Create a personalised management and rehabilitation plan
Unlike a standard medical appointment, we focus on understanding the whole person, not just the painful area, helping us identify the underlying cause of your problem.
Rapid Diagnosis
One of the benefits of attending LBSM is our access to specialist investigations, allowing many patients to receive a diagnosis more quickly.
Where appropriate, your Sports Medicine doctor can arrange:
- Diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound
- MRI scans
- X-rays
- CT scans
- Blood tests
Our close working relationships with expert radiologists, sonographers, physiotherapists and orthopaedic consultants mean your care is coordinated seamlessly, without unnecessary delays.
Your Personalised Treatment Plan
Following your assessment, we’ll explain exactly what’s causing your symptoms and recommend the most appropriate treatment.
Your plan may include:
- Specialist physiotherapy
- Exercise rehabilitation
- Activity or training modification
- Ultrasound-guided injections
- Shockwave therapy
- Medication or supplements where appropriate
- Podiatry
- Sports nutrition
- Further investigations
- Referral to one of our orthopaedic specialists if required
